First of all, let's stop using the deceptively antiseptic word "cull". Badgers are being *killed*, not trimmed or tidied.

Second, as this BBC report makes clear, there are alternatives to killing badgers, alternatives that the pro-killing forces don't want to acknowledge.

And as this second piece indicates, the current killing plan doesn't guarantee that TB spread will decrease. In fact, the way the killing is being done may cause it to INCREASE.

So, badgers are dying unnecessarily *and* it is likely this will make the TB situation worse.

So, who is it thinks this is a good idea?

Had a debate on this at work today, I've yet to meet a single person who thinks this is a good idea

Here is an article I particularly liked on the issue: http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/sep/01/john-finnemore-sea-otters-badgers - I love John Finnemore.

Who thinks it's a good idea? Probably the NFU, because it gives them an excuse to kill something.
