So, what is the difference between civil partnerships and marriage in the UK?
My reply:
It seems pretty complicated. There are already: civil partnership, civil marriage, and "religious" marriage. As far as I can tell, civil ceremonies are legally prohibited from having a religious ceremony included in them but are otherwise exactly the same as religious marriages. Civil partnerships seem to be the same as civil marriages, legally, except that they are not allowed to be referred to as "marriage". Civil ceremonies can even be held at religious sites.
If any readers have a clearer understanding of the differences, please chime in and clarify.
