Wow, he sounds like he would be fun to listen to, and what wonderful metaphors. The Ecstasy of St. Theresa? Wow, for both the strength of the metaphor AND its obscurity. Zowie!
He once described himself in an interview as "the crazy old uncle you keep locked in the attic". :-)
I should dig up and scan the photo of him, his incredibly cute young GF of the time, and me and Chris from the reception after... ?MLS Cup 2000?
I should, in all honesty, mention that as dearly as I love him, I think he did a shite job coaching when he was at DC. We didn't have nearly enough freakishly bizarre players, just a lot of young guys who needed mentoring, which he wasn't as good at. Now, when he at at Miami before he came to DC, he had some real nutjobs, and he seemed to get tremendous performances out of them, better than anyone else ever did.
But I think that colour commentary is his true calling, not playing or coaching.
