Photos of our new place!

We're in the second phase of unpacking at this point, with all the books and kitchenwares and most of the clothes unpacked and stowed. We still need to hit the flea markets/boot sales and dispose of a small mountain of stuff that it seemed like a shame to throw away, and we have a few pieces of furniture that we've decided to live without. Instead of a spare bedroom, we're going to have a study/project room, and we're going to look for a kitchen table that fits the space better than hers or mine (sorry, Brooke!)

We ended up putting some shelves, a small table, and a huge, ancient but still functional TV out by the tip behind her old apartment with a sign saying "free to good home". Five or ten minutes later when we came out again to put some cleaning supplies in the car, they were gone! Very quick work by the local elves/gnomes/etc/

Thursday: I took the cats to the vet (all three!) The young guys are now on a new diet (duck and green pea crunchy, if you like!) to see if it helps Finn's overgrooming (vet thought it might be a food allergy). I'll be getting some Feliway doobies, since the vet agreed that those might calm everyone's nerves and make the Great Cat Merger less... exciting.... And Gilbert is in very goo health for an old guy (16) apparently, though his eyesight is weakening a bit.

DC United sucked against New England. Not as badly as they have sucked in other games this season so far, but they looked weak and feeble for a good part of the game, after a moderately encouraging start. Normally I would feel somewhat reassured that our game Sunday is against Chivas USA, but they are actually looking fairly good this year. Which is more than I can say for DC. Our new offensive additions (Emilio, Fred, and now Adderly) look good, but the Wizard of Boz seems to have been unveiled as the Man Behind the Curtain, Erpen continues to be a horrendously overpaid Facundoing waste of space, and our new defensive additions are... oh, right, we didn't *make* any defensive additions--we're trying to play a season with only four defenders, and one of them on injury. NE *do* look pretty good, with several massive players in addition to the diminutive but deadly Jay Heaps and the whiney, cheaty, but scorey Twellman.

Saturday: Neta and I helped Chris and Mel set up for another flea market, and I stayed to help sell as Neta went off to a Vixens match (tied 1-1, and she hurt her hand :-(. N bought us all breakfast before she left, *and* she brought us lunch when she came back--what an intensely super GF! Sadly, the crowd was not in a buying mood, and not a whole lot moved, though we made a little money on the day. Rain cut everything short too, and Chris took most of the remaining goods to a local charity shop, which happily accepted them. N hung out for a while, then went home to do some stats homework (I don't have the right software), and C&M went off with several boxes of books to a used bookstore (I sent two boxes with them).

NJS and I have been making a number of decisions about stuff to keep and stuff to dispose of for the new place. We should be well furnished, between us, and we will have a nice guest bedroom for putting people up! We have a walk-through with the landlord after tomorrow's United match. We're also talking about going to visit my mum in June, see her parents in July, and take a wee vacation in Alba in August (steering well clear of midgey areas!). We've also been hatching some other clever plans, but now is not the time to disclose them. :-)

We got it!!!!

I got a call while I was waiting for Neta's Monday night soccer game to start; the landlord said "I called all your references, and they said lovely things about both of you--even your ex!" (She's very tickled by my being on such good terms with my ex.) "So the apartment is yours!"

Yay! We were very excited. :-) We actually went up and collected the lease (she had left it in our mailbox on the front porch), read it over, and signed it. There were keys, too! So we went upstairs and wandered around, finding new things, exploring nooks and crannies, debating what should go where, and generally enjoying our new place.

Yay!
