What a fascinating article! Those two wildly popular series really do encapsulate two strong strains of thought in our current culture.
It strikes me, though, that some of the basic similarities between the two storylines (good vs. evil, authority being an obstacle through misunderstanding or subversion to wickedness, romance) are standard elements of any saga story. Still, some interesting parallels.
