I need to make some new footy friends

I was standing all by myself Saturday at the match, feeling pretty lonely. redactrice doesn't come to games with me any more, of course. Neither does soccer_fox :-(. My buddy Justin was out of town. Even Shouty Man and his daughter (a ManU/Liverpool family feud that sits next to me with whom I chat) were absent, leaving my row almost as empty as my soccer family. :-/

I do know a fair number of people in the supporters' club, but they're all sitting in the club section, about a quarter of the stadium away from where N and I got seats together a couple of years ago.

Watching United is still fun (though it was a bit nerve wracking this week), but it's a lot less fun without a companion.

As, in fact, most things are. :-/

I know you've got your seats for this year, but maybe you should consider moving back to the SE section. I was there for a couple of years on my own and had fun. It's a good place to be if you're going to games solo because there are some people you know sprinkled around and a good feeling of being part of a group, what with the singing and chanting and such. Not such good views, of course, but everything is a trade-off.

You could always but a seat there for a game or two (heck, Nicole might sell your old one for you if you ask nicely) and see how you like it.

I know how you feel. Going to games on your own isn't as fun as with friends. Still, sounds like Saturday's match was exciting (I caught the highlights on ESPN).

The match *was* pretty exciting. United scored the one goal early, were doing really well in the first half, then got hammered twice in (relatively) quick succession in the second half and started looking like they had run out of steam. They ran through a whole mess of subs (one of the assistant coaches was seen carrying a kitchen sink to the touchline before being waved off by the fourth official) but it didn't look like anything was working. We finally scored an equalizer, and they replied within a minute. We managed to squeak a PK in, but when they had Jaime take it, I had my heart in my mouth. There's this legend of him being our ace PK taker, but I think your beloved Jeff Agoos is the only person I've seen get stoned by keepers as many times as I have Jaime. Fortunately, he sunk it, so we squeezed out a win.
