That's just astounding. I'm checking back and commenting on last week's postings from my classmates. One of them submitted five sentences totaling 160 words (we're supposed to write at least 250). They seemed very vague, but they had page citations from one of our texts, so I checked those pages.



Yep. He had *copied* the sentences out of the text. That was his "analysis".

This really is a joke.

No, unfortunately, it's becoming all too common. I've caught teenagers plagiarising (more common since the rise of the internet) and the sad thing is that they don't feel any shame about the plagiarism. It's only the getting caught that bothers them. :(

Back in Colorado, one tenth grader in the late '90s plagiarised his entire research paper. When it was National Honor Society time, I dutifully informed the group's sponsor about what happened when asked to comment on nominated students. She decided that was enough to keep him out of the group, at least for that year. His parents were very angry. They didn't see how plagiarising a major assignment should keep him out of National HONOR Society. :(

I wonder how many of this type become foreign policy analysts at the Pentagon - might explain one or two things ;-)
