50books: catching up

Well, I've been crap at journaling this year, and even more so at journaling my book reading. But here's a feeble attempt to catch up. I think there have been others, but since I'm not positive, I will leave those out.

I don't have time to write up reviews on every one of those now. :-) But I will try to get to them before I finish reading too many more. :-)

Next to my bed I have (started but not finished) 2 more fiction and 12 nonfiction, and (not yet begun) 2 more fiction and 13 more nonfiction. Plus I have two projects I want to do this autumn that will require reading (or at least skimming) about half a dozen nonfiction titles. Plus the two classes I signed up for, one of which has a reading list of five titles, the other of which is using only online materials. A lot of reading to do!

Obviously, I'm a pretty escapist reader; almost everything I've read and *finished* is fiction, either historical or fantasy/scifi. For good or ill, I tend not to read nonfiction just before bed or in other quick snatches, because I'm afraid I will lose the thread of the narrative and forget crucial details, but I have no trouble reading fiction that way.

Oh, you're very welcome! I would heartily endorse any of them except The Amazing Vacation. It's a kids' book I remembered fondly from my childhood, but I have to say that I don't care for it now. The things that seemed clever then just seem arch and contrived to my older mind. Some kids' books are good when you're young *and* good when you're older; sadly, at least for me, this is not one of them.
