New Scottish bridge named.

"The £120m crossing, to alleviate traffic pressure on the Kincardine Bridge, is due to open on Wednesday 19 November."

soccer_fox and gr_c17 and I can testify that the Kincardine Bridge could use a little relief..

"Transport Scotland said the process attracted 178 suggestions, including the 'Bridge at Jones Diary' and 'Blackadder Crossing'.

New signs with the name 'Clackmannanshire Bridge' will be erected on the near approaches to the crossing.

In the Wee County, the campaign attracted high-profile support from the likes of football pundit Alan Hansen and former Scottish Parliament presiding officer George Reid."

For my non-Scots readers, Clackmannanshire is the Scots equivalent of State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations--the nation's most mysteriously tiny subentity.

They've been working on the new bridge for some years now - transport projects always seem to take ages.
There's more info on the project's web site (http://www.upperforthcrossing.com/) including plans, construction photos, etc., and a whizzy video simulation of a drive over the bridge.
We may think of an excuse soon to drive over in that direction and try the bridge out...

Yep, the Bl'adders are quite the notable family, having sprinkled their scion far and wide. gr_c17 and I were welcomed as guests at one point at the Black Watch of Canada's officers' mess, where a portrait of one of their former commanders, a Lt. Col. Kenneth G. Blackader (just one 'd') held a place of honour.
