I've not been doing very many "day in the life" updates recently. I'll try capturing some of what I've missed later, but for now, a quick review of today, before it's over.

Neta had a paper that was well overdue that she had to work on most of today. We got up early and had breakfast, then she started catching up on homework. I felt to my latest project, which was cataloguing all the games I had decided I could live without. We took a break for lunch and to watch the Newcastle (my English team) and Blackburn (her English team) match from this weekend. Well, I kept work on my project and she napped, waking up when I cursed at Blackburn scoring again (strangely, she slept right through my celebrating NUFC's lone goal).

After that, she went back to her paper and I finally finished the list and sent it off to the games resellers. They got back to me right away with a decent (not great, but OK) price, and I started packing things. It's going to be about a dozen boxes, the largest but not the only shipment I've sent them this year. I think one more load to them and to the general wargaming community and I will be done clearing out for a while.

I've disposed of a lot of wargames that I had either played and decided I didn't like or realised I was never going to play (including my nearly complete collection of Europa games). I've kept a very small selection of my role-playing games, but I've disposed of most of the ones that survived the last cut, including my CoC, Pendragon, MERP, and Traveller materials. I'm holding onto four: my AD&D stuff (partly out of nostalgia, partly because it's all so beat up no one would pay for it), my Bushido stuff (ditto), my GURPS books (simply because I love their diversity), and my Tekumel materials (because its unique and hard to replace).

At the last minute I held back War in Europe, DAK, and Edelweiss; I may never play any of them, but in a twisted way I enjoy just having them. I have about another 50 that I've decided I need to play and either find wonderful or dispose of. I need to winnow out my old magazine games (several wargaming magazines offer a full game in every issue)--some of those are probably collectors' items. And that leaves about 150 or so that are almost certainly sacrosanct because I've either played them or another in a series they're part of and know they're keepers, or they're keepers because of their subject matter (or designer or something). Plus ASL, which is kind of a collection in itself. Plus the 'German' games for playing with nongamers (those need to be culled as well, though). Yep, still a lot of games left.

Doing the same thing with miniatures as well. I'm disposing of all my Warhammer 40K stuff. I just never play it anymore, and it takes up space. Even if I don't get a good return on it, that will be money in the bank instead of something I don't use or enjoy. A considerable portion of the boxes I'm sending off are old miniatures rules, too. Tons of old stuff that I bought mostly to read it, or played it once and decided I didn't like it. Or played it a lot but have moved on from. And there are historical minis that need to go too. The 15mm F&I for a start; with me and Phil building up our 25mm ranks, there's really no need for all the little guys to stick around.

Even Neta has never shown any interest in Subbuteo, so I think that should go.

Last weekend was clearing off the table in the work room. I didn't actually clear it off, but I did end up with several bags of recycling, reducing the crap that's piled up there by at least 20-25%. Do that a few more times and work one small organisational miracle of some sort, and we will finally be able to use that as a work table. I can see the floor all the way around the table now. All the shelves are nearly full, but they're not full to bursting the way they were before.

Same thing in the dining room (though the bookshelves need at least one more purge), the living room (when the shipment to the resellers has gone), and the bed room.

A year after cramming everything that the two of us had in our apartments into here, taking some of it out for her pied a terre in Baltimore, and doing some serious clearing, we are finally getting close to having a not entirely cluttered apartment.

We'll be done just in time to move! :-D

I've been trying to winnow and cull, too. Not easy (though I remind myself that I did quite a lot when I cleared out my storage locker), but it's good you will get some money for it. Every game that goes away is one less item to bring to Scotland! :)
