I suppose because they think Americans won't be able to understand or relate to characters unless they are American. In which I suppose they are correct (I'm actually pretty sure there were all sorts of little things about LOM that people my age or maybe 5 years older in the UK were chortling with pleasure about that went over my head).

But if that's the case, why GIVE THE CHARACTERS ALL THE SAME NAMES? And dress them the same, etc.? Why not *adapt* the idea, instead of just changing the place and some of the dialogue?

I agree, adapt it, don't remake it.
We are expected to be 'bilingual' and understand references or just live without, I think everyone else should be treated the same ;0)

I heard that they were remaking it - it's been in the works since LoM season 2 began. I just don't know how well it will work in the US.

Honestly, I'm more interested in Ashes to Ashes - has that already aired?

In the UK? Yes, and they're working on a second series. Here? Not that I know of, sadly.
