Jun. 25th, 2008 01:45 pmAmerican Film Institute list of top American films
gr_c17 brought this to my attention and that of
john_arundel. At first he didn't spot the "American" qualifier and vented a quite impressive plume of molten rock and poisonous gases about all the foreign films that had been left out. ;-) I'm still not sure how 'Lawrence of Arabia' qualifies as an American film, but...
Opinions? Disagreements? Agreements? (Naw, those are never any fun! ;-)

And in my mind, Moonstruck should have been farther up the romance list (that's easily a second favorite movie).

Date: 2008-06-25 06:13 pm (UTC)When I was discussing it with Bryan and Peter, we agreed that "greatest" is a very tricky qualification. So many things can go into it, including the historical and technical placement of the film, it's effect on popular culture and film-making, etc.
Since I think Lion King and Shrek are the only films on that sublist I've seen, I don't think I'm qualified to have an opinion. :-)

Date: 2008-06-26 04:03 pm (UTC)"American" was the first word I looked for when I went to the web site. Which I saw quite readily.
