believe it or not, there's a woman in Colorado - a woman in her 70s by now - who could probably do that too. A very cool lady - last time we met she'd been kayaking down the coast of Nova Scotia. She was a ski instructor, so she tended to get summers "off".

Oh, I do believe it. There really are people who live the phrase "you're as old as you feel". Hooray for Nova Scotia!

If I had a better sense of balance, I would try one of these trips. I have to stick to the broader, less sexy kind of kayak until I get better at it, though. I guess it's because my own beam is rather broad! :-)

the Scottish canoe and kayak club train and practice in the canal at the end of my street. Mostly the kids and beginners.

I did one lesson in sea-kayaking at the simply wonderful Raasay House Outdoor Centre. I only fell over right at the end of the morning, once we'd got back into sheltered water (go figure)...
