OK, I'm officially sick of doing this

A friend expressed interest in playing a particular miniatures game. So I organised a game at my place for him to play in.
Or at least tried to.
I contacted sixteen people who I knew might be interested. Eight of them even bothered to reply, mostly saying they were interested and wanted come. So, I was mildly annoyed at the other eight for not responding to an invitation, but, as Neta would say, what the hey. Eight plus me and the originator of the request were so many I was going to need to organise two games anyway. So I didn't also post the invitation to a local gaming group I knew was interested.
So, over the course of the last few days, five of the people who said "yes" have dropped out. One has written to say "I may come by if I have time."
And, oh, yes, of course, the guy who asked me to set up the game to begin with has announced he's busy and has other plans for the rest of the month.
Then responded positively to games mooted on other lists.
Fuck that shit. I am doing him no more favours. And I'm not going to bother to organise another game any time soon. Or invite most of these people to anything.
Now excuse me, because I have to hurriedly cut one of the two games I had planned down to something that 3 people can play in an afternoon, instead of 4-5...

Date: 2008-05-15 01:38 pm (UTC)No, what I need is not more rules, but to get to painting so I can actually use the rules I've already got. It's still tempting, though. I'm sure you can relate.

Date: 2008-05-15 05:02 pm (UTC)AOE is great for large battles. You could conceivably, especially if part of a club, fight all the major engagements of the wars with them. But they are a bit broad-brush at times, and you have to accept some abstraction.
As an alternative to Shako or Empire, I would suggest taking a look at Le Feu Sacre, a tactical set that I like the look of. I've played it only once, but I think I prefer it to other tactical rules because of the sequencing, C2, and intel aspects, all combined with a simple but effective combat system. Plus it's not terribly expensive, especially if you get it in PDF.
:-D

And, yes, the less said about the Regrettable Evening of the Gigantic Bottle of Port, the better.... :-( (My bruises are a lovely dark purple now...)
