First it was describing the defense of our nation as "protecting the homeland", which has always sounded skeevy to me.

Now we're describing anyone who opposes us as "criminals".

What's next, commissars in the military units to ensure doctrinal purity (I guess we have Public Affairs Officers already...) Thought police? Gulags? (I guess we just keep ours in Cuba.)

This country needs a change in direction, and it needs it soon.

Whatever the PAOs are, they're not political commissars. The best of them are trying to do a nigh-impossible job of getting out the news with the approved direction of spin on it. The worst are preventing any news from getting out.

That said, I agree with you that the US has adopted far too many of the methods of the USSR. That is a bad direction.
