I did not know until reading his bio on Wikipedia that he landed on D-Day with the 82nd Airborne and ended the war with 18 decorations, including the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star with Valor device, Purple Heart, Belgium's Order of the Crown and France's Croix de Guerre.
