All the unfinished books -- many of which I enjoyed when I started them -- speak to the shortness of the American attention span, I suppose. Most of them I picked up while at a friend's house or in a book store or somesuch and read a fair bit of -- as much as half, in several cases -- but never bought the book so I could continue.

I feel positively unlettered!
