various actions
May. 17th, 2007 04:08 pmOK, another quick post. Bryan and Peter (who really should be getting their Hero of the Revolution stars right about now) came over Tuesday night and we had dinner and chatted, then they helped bring in all of N's remaining goods and chattels from her old place (which she had spent the evening loading in her car). *And* they helped me assemble the computer desk and the spare bed, in the course of which we got complaints from the neighbor just below, who was disturbed from her slumbers by our clomping and thumping. Her slumbers, which apparently start at NINE PIP EMMA on weeknights. Say WHAT? *grumble, grumble*
N and I went over to the House In The Trees last night to help the grrls pack up their rental van with several pieces of furniture that are going, along with Guildenstern the Purring Orange (Head-)Bonker, to live with Mel's mum in Chattanooga. They are on the road today, so think safe travel thoughts for them! N was brilliant in doing lots of the heavy lifting and the spacial-perception task of fitting four pieces of serious furniture plus two boxes of sideboard and bureau drawers and several other odds and ends into a normal-sized street van. We came home and slept the sleep of the exhausted, at least until 5 am when we were awoken by cats doing various insane cat things.
I've sorted out the cable/Internet/phone guy today--we should be getting installed on Saturday (after we go to the flea market and before we go to a Nats game with some of N's friends). I was hoping to continue my relationship with DirecTV, but the landlord put the kibosh on that idea. :-/
It's been simply lovely, waking up with my love, getting up and having a leisurely breakfast in our nice kitchen or out on the small back porch, then getting ready for the day and coming in to work. There are some really tempting jobs going begging that I could sign up for if I left my team, but they would require me to make a commitment of a couple of years and, despite how incredibly cool they are, I'm not sure I'm ready to do that. :-/ But life is, despite the dislocation and unhappiness of change (I'm going to miss Mr Drooly something awful!), pretty damn good right now!
