Gilbert report

For those interested in Gilbert's health, who knew that the vet left a "please call me" message. We played phone tag today, but she left a message on my work voicemail, and here's the summary I sent to Neta, who was kindly askign after teh old guy because she knew I was worried:

"It sounds as if (from the message the dr. left) they detected initial signs of kidney disease and they want to adjust his diet. Which is fine except his regular dr. figured this out several years ago and had me adjust his diet, which makes me think the dr. I saw the other day is a moron who didn't bother to read his file. In fact, I'm pretty sure of it, since she told me to give him limited doses of aspirin to reduce inflammation from his injury, and if she had read his file, she would have seen that he's already *getting* the maximum dose that they think is wise, on account of his aging joints."

This after spent the better part of the day at the garage tryign to get the car inspected (finally did, including oil change and tune-up, replacement of a brake light and some engine belts)

What the heck - they obviously didn't read the file. Sheesh. Are you thinking of changing vets or is there another vet there? We had a moron here too, but changed to another vet in the practice, and he's wonderful.

Well, I'd like to just get the boys' regular vet all the time, if I can. He handled all the DEFRA injectiosn and testing and understands that process, having done it for many people. He's also known Gilbert for years, and the boys since they were kittens ("Mr Herriot, them kittns is big cats...") I just got the luck of the draw when I went in without an appointment.

That's another thing that I find annoying: their website says that walk-ins are welcome during office hours, but when one goes in, they seem surprised if you don't have an appointment, and sometimes I've been told no one can see me (my cats) if I don't have an appointment. I need to remind them what their website says, and suggest that if they don't mena it, they should change it!

Ah! I see. I misunderstood. I thought that it was luck of the draw always. Okay. Yes, I don't think they have a regular vet at our practice, although we are going to keep on requesting this guy as we like him a lot.

Kevin had the same sort of problem at his old vet's office. One day a week was supposed to be open for people to bring in their pets for injections without appointments. Not true! ARGH.
