One of my projects this weekend was to give my apartment a thorough cleaning. The excuse was that my friend Mike is visiting (back in the States for the holidays from his teaching job in northeastern Japan). But really, the place has been a shambles for some time, badly in need of a scrub. I apologise to friends who visit regualrly--the place should be much nicer the next time you drop by!

Done:

Kitchen: Counters, cabinets, sink, stove scrubbed. Floor vacuumed (could use a wash, too, which they may get before Mike arrives).

Box room and laundry room: Vacuumed and tidied. Three loads of laundry done. Cat boxes cleaned.

Library and living room: Dusted (including the ceiling fans), vacuumed, tidied. Windows and screens washed (except for the small ones at the bottom).

Bathroom: Counter, sink, toilet, floor scrubbed. Bath could stand to be cleaned, but that's for another day, I think. Window and screen washed.

Hallway: Vacuumed.

Bedroom: Dusted (except for the desk--that's a bit of a Project) and vacuumed. Windows and screens washed.

Still lots that could be done (the fridge and the utility sink could use a good clean, as could the *inside* of the oven; the closets could all be gone through and probably substantially emptied. And there's still all of my filing and records disposal, which I'm always behind on), but it's a start.

Time for a quick shower! [Edit: Ah, Mike just called from Richmond--they're only leaving now, so I have an hour or two before they get here.]

Chris and I took my framed Achnambeithach photo print to a framing shop to find out why there was white dust appearing inside. Turns out there were tiny pinholes drilled in the frame all over, and the shop owner said she'd seen this before: tiny bugs that come in some sorts of wood used for framing. Sadly (I love that frame!) I asked her to reframe it for me; it won't look as nice, but at least there won't be little bugs eating it (I hope!)

Because I'm a dork, who loved her Gaelic place-names class: Achnambeitheach, from Achadh nam Beitheach, the field of the birches.

Cograts on all that cleaning! I'm going to have to do some of that myself, but definitely AFTER the 15-page essay's in for tomorrow :-p
