How is it that two people can sleep quite comfortably in a bed, like so



and that one person can likewise find a bed perfectly comfortable



But that if you add three relatively small (compared to the person) cats, it becomes almost impossible for the person to find room?



Part of the answer lies in the cats' insistence in this case on forming a line abreast, whereas if they would just position themselves around the person, all would be well.



But, no, everyone has to be in the coveted space near (1) the light and (b) the person's face, so the person gets pushed further and further aside. Grrr.

perditathecat always sleeps at my feet, because aitkendrum is so much taller, and I somehow am forced to sleep around her. When in fact it is MY bed!

My cats are much better behaved. I suppose it helps that they don't particularly like eachother so don't want to lay together and I make a good buffer. They usually start in either this position.

The last is actually nice on a cold morning with one curled up next to my head. The problem comes when she decides it's bath time and wakes me up in doing so.

Which is why no matter how much I love cats they are not coming in the bedroom at night unless they respect the space

Ditto. It was kind of hard at first, but then the husband was sleeping better...and they get the bed for the other 16-18 hours a day.

See, I can't do that because, while they do get the bed the rest of the day, they get no human for 10+ hours a day, more if I'm out in the evening.

Well, remember this: you ARE the human. You are the one who works and provides the roof over their head, the kibble in the bowl, the catnip they get stoned on, the vet to keep them healthy (though this point is somewhat dicey, as I have yet to meet a cat who *likes* the vet)....and you are bigger. So it's ok to move them.

So says the woman who woke up Saturday morning (after Dave had let the cats in) to find Guinness taking up 80% of her pillow.

While this made me laugh, it is not the situation at my house. I'm lucky if Chessie sleeps near me at night. There were a number of nights where he was sleeping on something above my pillow. That was nice 'cause I could reach up in the morning and he'd be there. But most nights he sleeps on the floor by my bed.
