Went to one place on the way to work this morning to see if I could just get someone else to scan the pages I need. Jizo Bosatsu! They wanted $2.90 a page to scan documents, more if I didn't have my own media to save them on. Forget editing; I should just set up a computer-services-for-people-without-computers business.

I have about 30 pages I want to scan; at that rate it would be *substantially* cheaper just to get another scanner to replace the one that's crapped out (I looked up some reviews of the UMAX Astra scanner by the way--universally reviled; no one seems to have had a good experience with it. No wonder it was on sale.)

I have a all in one scanner, printer, copier, by HP that worked the last time I had it set up. We could try to get it together if you think that would be less trouble.

Thanks! I'm trying to decide if there's anything else I'll be likely to need a scanner for. $80 isn't all that much (and I should be able to ge a good quality one for that, judging from reviews). But if this is all I'm goign to do with it...
