...what had happened to the proposal for a Gaidhlig-immersion primary school in Sleat (on the south end of Skye) that my friend magaidhbhan had clued her readers in to.

Yup! The letters (including my own) are pouring into the Highland Council office. The Sleat Community Council voted to back the proposal -- whoo-hoo!!! that was unexpected, really -- and unanimous, too! There's now a counter-petition going for the folks who don't want the school, and I know a few people who've gotten really nasty, personal attatcks (letter form, usually, but occassionally in other fora as well). We should know by the end of the summer, and then people can start getting over it. Exciting times!
