I've been watching episodes of "This Life", a BBC ensemble drama from 1996 that BBC America has jjust started showing. It's simply wonderful, with all sorts of good actors in it (Jack Davenport of Coupling, Andrew Lincoln of Teachers, the beautiful and talented Amita Dhiri who's been in one or two one-off TV eps I've seen, and Daniela Nardini, Jason Hughes, and Luisa Bradshaw-White, who are also quite good). Good writing, good acting, engaging characters and stories... I hope we get all thirty-something episodes.

It, like some other 'young adult friends living in the city' shows, makes me wonder about how my life would have been different if I'd not got married basically right out of college, if I'd gone out and lived on my own, or with friends, for several years as I got used to being an adult. Would I be different? Would I see things differently? Would I have different attitudes on how to relate to people? I don't know.

Well, I should finish watching this ep; I promised to sort books with [livejournal.com profile] redactrice and [livejournal.com profile] shy_kat this afternoon.

Guess it all depends on your perspective; I'm still in school at 24 and will be until I'm nearly 28 and it makes me feel like a child, and all I want is to be able to live with Anthony. :/ I still can't seem to shake the idea that 9-5 job, car, marriage, 2.5 kids = adulthood.

I have the whole corpus of the 'This Life' series. Unfortunately, they only did the two seasons and left us with a cliffhanger. Guess we'll never know what happens.

If worse comes to worst and you feel like torturing yourself with the endingless ending, let me know and I'll loan you my discs. (Region 2, though...bear in mind.)

Hey, aitkendrum and I were trying to figure out how we 'met' you. (Perdita, of course, assumes you came to visit her.) Do you remember?

An exclellent series but cut so short in it' life. A third series would have probaby finished things off nicely. On your point of marriage, considering whats happens to some of the charcaters in these shows, marriage might have been the best option, but then hindsight is an amazing thing if somewhat useless.

I do have a crew like that back home, and they still spend time together very frequently, just because they all seem to have gotten jobs in the area. It's nice to have everyone home when I come home, but at the same time I hate being the odd one out. I haven't really developed that social network over here yet, and it's kind of taking a toll on me, I think.

I do feel like I'm part of the group back home (we've known each other since the start of high school if not earlier, and we're all in our mid-twenties now) but what with living halfway across the globe and all, I'm bound to be left out of things. :(
