excellent game!

I played my second full Flames of War game today, again against the charming (if rascally) and goodsportsmanly Frank Popecki of the Iron Fist League. My Indians (Coy. A, 1/1st Punjab Regiment, 141 Indian Brigade, 4th Indian Division, 1940) held out for a long time against a German panzergrenadier company, but he had overrun my Royal Artillery battery early on, so it was hard to damage his heavier targets, and he out machinegunned me seriously. Frank's dice are always atrocious, and mine are usually better than average when I play him, so he took a long time to grind me down. :-) 1st Platoon even took out a platoon of German assault guns with their sticky bombs (a horrible weapon to use, from what I've read), but int he end he simply pounded me into the ground. Next time I will take a few more chances and use the fearlessness of my brave jawans to better advantage.

Off for a little bike riding before A. comes over to go to the Screaming Eagles tailgate and the DC-Houston match with me.

I was playing Warmachine against a FoW player the other day, we're trying to hook up so I can give it a shot.

It's a fun game; a bit like the Warhammer family, in that it has simple rules with some basic dice throws, which is then modified with special rules for each army and theater. But it's a historical game, and the authors put some serious thought into making a simple, easily accessible game that looks good, is fun, and gives credible results. I like ASL, but ASL is never going to grab passers-by and make them want to play--it's hard and confusing and you have to be a devotee. FOW is quick to learn and, especially if there are games goign on with large forces that newbies can be given parts of to command, and/or if players have a couple of armies so one doesn't have to build a whole one just to learn, it's a good recruiting tool for the hobby.

Crossfire (http://crossfire.wargaming.info/) is my favorite fast and easy to drag people in WWII game. Looks like basing might be compatible with the FoW stuff, so bonus.

Basing looks to be compatible; I think organisation may be a bit different, since, as far as I can tell, FOW is one step further down than Crossfire (most infantry are teams, rather than squads).

Yep, but then if I wanted to play at the same organization, I'd just play the same rules :)
