Well, I thought I was crossing off one more referral today, but he wants me to come back, so I wasn't really. We went over my med history, and he said I sounded more or less OK, but he recommended a cystoscopy just to be on the safe side, so I'm going to go back in a couple of weeks for that.

Home now and watchign Firefly while doing laundry and waiting for john_arundel and gr_c17 to drop by for gaming and/or figure painting. Tomorrow A. and I have dinner with some of her friends. And the next three days will see me at work for 32 hours so as to make up the time I took off to go to the doctor today and last week. I just love the way we get no sick leave at my job...

As for work - is all your holiday time lumped in with your vacation time? I hate it when that happens. If you get the flu then you are stuck with no time left....

Yeah, and we get only three weeks combined (well, 16 days). So it feels as if we have none at all, though in reality I suppose that means we get the equivlent of two weeks of vacation and a week of sick time. It's just that every other place I've worked one got at least two weeks of both, so this feels like we have to "pay" to make them interchangeable...

However, apparently I should be grateful; with our holiday allotment of 9 days, we're apparently at or ahead of US national averages, and way ahead of places like Japan, Taiwan, Mexico, and Saudi Arabia...

I don't mind when they lump leave together when it's 4 or more weeks. Wait. Now that I've written that, I disagree. LOL! I think the two should be separated. I don't think it's fair to lump things together like that. I mean, if you have an appendix out, and are out of work for over a week - there goes your vacation time. Also, I hardly ever take the allotment of days that I've been given for sick leave. If it's all lumped together you bet I'd take every day.

Which, I'm guessing, is why they lump it together and reduce the amount: so they will have less notional liability (all those days that people *could* take off, whether they do or not, probably have some accounting cost). If they put them in one bin, they don't have to keep track of them, and they don't have all those saved sick days looming over their profit/loss statement. But if they put them in one bin, then people will probably take a greater proportion of the days, so they need to reduce the total so they're not actually losing more of our working hours. :-(

My leave is all mixed together too, which is why I worked as much as possible last year when I had Lyme disease instead of staying home in bed like a reasonable person. Otherwise I'd have no vacation at all.

With something as serious as that, couldn't you have taken temporary disability?

I didn't ask. The last time I tried to take short term disability, it was hard. I'd had surgery and it took a while to recover. I think they gave me two days of disability pay. It took me way more than two days to get better. Companies really don't want you to use your benefits because it's expensive to them, and they make it difficult for the employee.
