at long last, another bike entry!

winterbadgerI was looking forward to going riding today; I've been meaning to start riding in the morning (just for half an hour or so), but this week that didn't work out.
Now, I could tell it was grey and dreich today, but I didn't realize until I got out ont he bike that it was actually drizzling slightly. Well, the drizzle turned into rain while I was still in my cul de sac, so I didn't stay out long, but I couldn't bear *not* to ride for just a little. I just thought of it as training for my would-be homeland. :-)
It was the first foray for several new pieces of gear. The bike tool came in handy, as I think I have finally gotten the seat-pillar clamp tight enough that I can set the seat at an optimal height without it slipping down when I sit on it. Only problem is, this requires the hex driver to make any change, as at this tight the clmap part of the collar is too tight to flip. Not a problem; I don't expect to make many adjutments mid-ride anyway.
I didn't have my new lights on, or my refelctive strips, though I probably should have, given how wet and dark it is. I *did* have the new rearview mirror on the helmet and managed to find a position and method of use that works.
I was a careful rider: I watched extra cautiously for traffic and braked more slowly and earlier than I normally would. What with the rain and it being my first time back in the saddle in nearly two months, so I didn't push it too far. I was on the road for 20 minutes, doing my usual neighborhood route minus one of the side streets.
OK, time for a shower and a crack at my long list of things to do today. Good thing that it includes lots of reading; I think this is a day for lying somewhere comfy and soaking up a book or two (even if they are classwork). Sadly, my vistors for today (Rocky and his fiancee) have cancelled, but I suppose that just means more time for chores. Oh goody! ;-/
