I called Tuesday afternoon to see if I could take my car to the dealer across the street. It needed a 90K mile tune up and was now leaking oil. I suggested I could leave it with them and pick it up the next day. They said, "Sure, no problem." Took it over that evening and they were very surprised and a bit dismayed to see me. Bad sign. Anyway, C&M pick me up, we go home. Then, yesterday, I take the office shuttle from the metro (half an hour for 15 minute's worth of driving, because the driver has to talk to all his buddies along the way). After waiting all day, regularly checking the URL they had sent me where I could check the service ticket online to see if it was done, I get a call from them around 5. "Yeah, we're not going to get to your car today." Not *get* to it? You mean they haven't even started? Great. Now how do I get home? Chris is out all evening, so I can't ask her to pick me up. Check the shuttle schedule. There's one more leaving for the Dunn Loring Metro at 6. I can get a cab from there to the house for $6 or so.

Go downstairs early so as not to miss the shuttle, since it's the last one of the day. (I'd planned on working late, since the dealer's service office is open late, to make up for the hour and a half I spent Monday driving back and forth to the optometrists to get new lenses because the ones they gave me kept coming apart in my eye. Well, so much for that plan, have to make up the time some other night. Also so much for any idea of going out to hoist a few beers to St Patrick--that that I had any friends to go out with...) 5.40...5.50.... 6.00, no shuttle... 6.05, no shuttle... 6.10, I go over to the security desk at the front lobby and ask if the shuttle is usually late. They have no idea; the guys supposedly guarding our building don't pay any attention to the vehicles that stop in front of it constantly. I keep glancing at the curb, in case the shuttle comes while I'm talkign to them. They try to find the schedule. I *KNOW* what the schedule says; I'm asking for actual observation of behavior, which they apparently can't help me with. I turn around--there's the shuttle, pulling away! They drove around the circle in front of our building, didn't stop, and drove away. The security guys try to call the security guys at our neighboring building to get them to stop the shuttle and send it back, but it's a lost cause; no one at our other building is even *answering* the security desk phone or radio call. Great. So I end up calling a cab and taking that home... $20 that could have bought me a nice lunch or a good book is going to an Ethiopian cabdriver who tells me all about his digestion and how there are dogs that can detect cancer.
