Yes, well, on the other hand when we both wake up our respective next mornings, our snow here will probably be melted, but *you* will still be in Scotland. :-)
Yay snow!! Funny, I have lived in *all* of the places listed in this thread ... so as someone from Virginia who lived in Boston for years but is now living in Scotland, I TOTALLY understand the excitement about snow, I'm glad VA doesn't get Boston-sized storms because seriously, we don't know how to deal with snow down there, and I'm completely jealous because I doubt we'll be seeing much in the way of fluffy happy snowy whiteness anywhere except on the top of Ladhar Bheinn across the sound. Rock on! Throw a snowball at someone for me :-)
I have some very fond memories of snowy Boston! Walking to my T stop through the snow, and seeing the whole city coated in white.
One of the folks I talked to on my last trip, a rock-climber I gave a lift to from Glencoe to Crianlarich, told me that they've had simply awful winters for snow in Scotland the last ten years. :-(
Awful meaning lack thereof? That's been my experience, though granted I've only been here through a winter and a half now!
Thought you might enjoy this picture, though -- this is from Boston last winter, pic. courtesy of my wonderful boss. I hadn't the foggiest what the picture was of until I read her caption ...
Awful as in none to speak of except on the highest mountain tops, and not much even there, yes. He (Gordon, I think his name was; nice guy) is an avid cross-country skier as well as rock-climber, and he said that there hadn't been enough snow for it anywhere for quite a few years, and that the downhill skiing industry was hanging by a thread too. :-( Since then I've looked around on the Web and seen at least one official paper on the problem which, of course, people can't be entirely sure about but are inclined to attribute to the unnatural increase in temperature in the last few decades. :-(
Of course, here in the US the government seems comfortably certain that (a) global warming isn't real, (b) if it is, there's nothing that can be done about it, (c) it may be a natural process, and (d) there may be economic advantages to it. *sigh*
Yeah, that seems to be the size of it ... everyone I've spoken to, even the young folks, say that the winters were much harsher when they were younger -- though having said that I've also heard that this coming winter is supposed to teach us a lesson for having gotten used to the milder winters of late ... (sorry, the syntax of that was really convoluted, it's been a long Gàidhlig day, and I'm translating from the Gàidhlig in my head and it's just not working very well)
And about official policay regarding global warming: a) Right. Pretend that snake at your feet doesn't exist, then it won't bite you! Good plan. *sigh* b) Going barefoot's a good plan, even if there are such things as snakes. *sigh* c) What? That snake's been driven out of its habitat by expanding cities? No, surely it moved into my sitting room as part of a natural process of migration! *sigh* d) ARRRRRRRRRGH!!!

That suggests I may not have as much trouble learning Gaidhlig as I feared, since your syntax made perfect sense to me. :-)
