OK, I need to send this round to my non-LJ friends as well, but I came across a discussion of Burns Night which included a link to this site.

If I were to organize a Burns Night Dinner, would anyone here like to participate? I had been thinking of having a St. Andrews' Day event but, well, I missed that. Burns Night is a good six weeks away, so that should be plenty of time for preparation.

A Scottish-themed evening of music, poetry-reading, good drink, tasty food, and most of all good company: sound appealing? I'm going to be away on a course on the actual day (January 25th), plus it's a weeknight, so I was going to suggest the Saturday or Sunday night before (21st/22nd). Haggis and whisky would be on the menu, but there would be other (Scottish) comestibles as well, since I know not everyone is as fond of those delights as I am! :-)

Shame, it sounds like great fun and I would have loved to crash it (however little we actually know each other :) -- but you're thinking of having it the day after I leave VA to fly back to bonny Scotland! Alas and alack :)

Chances are my folks'll be sick to death of me by then! ;) I'm home for a little over a month (Dec 16 - Jan 20) -- so one evening probably wouldn't be too bad ... but don't change your plans around for me! Much fun as it would be, the last thing I want to do is inconvenience folks :)

Well, I still need to check with some other non-LJ friends to see whether they'd like to join in. I'll poll on both weekends (the second and third). If it looks like the 21/22nd is really best for most people, we'll do it then, but maybe you and I can meet up sometime while you're here. I'm not a clubby kind of person, but it would be nice to sit somewhere quiet, have a whisky or two, and hear about your adventures on Skye!

I'm interested. Unfortunately my allergies (including to cats) seem worse these days, but I could take meds beforehand, as long as it would be ok for me to leave if they got out of control.
