I've been trying to post an entry for about half an hour now. And, of course, the signal that I could finally get through was the whole page reloading and all of my entry being gone, even when I back-paged. >:-p

So, anyone interested in seeing some soccer towards the end of October? DC United will have one, maybe two playoff games at home. I'm about to order tickets for these; anyone else want to join me? $46 for two matches plus a free long-sleeved t-shirt (black, with some variety of DC United logo) "Premium" seats (i.e., mid-level elevation, not too far from the half line).

Sometimes, in case certain people don't see entries like these, you should try emailing people, or god forbid, picking up the telephone. Which dates?

Hadn't gotten around to emailing people yet. Hate telephones; do everything I possibly can to avoid using them.

Dates: 30 October for the first round, they're now saying. Assuming we win, the second match (the conference title) would be Nov 5th or 6th.

I've had a strong aversion all my life (so well before our recent misunderstanding). I find that when I want to ring people, or they want to ring me, it's always at the least convenient time for the person being called. Plus mobiles only work half the time, and it's usually only possible to understand about half of what the other person is saying (unlike in movies, where people always answer, signals never drop out, and voices are clear as a bell). If you're calling for something work-related (your or theirs), the other person is rarely there, and if they are they don't have the info you want, or the only answer they have is one you don't want to hear. And phones put people on the spot, so they panic, or become more overwrought than they need to be. Phones are OK for emergencies, IMO, or ordering food, but apart from that there are few things that aren't better said either face to face or in a letter/email. (As you can guess from the above, I think email is truly one of the greatest inventions ever--it's rapid, free communication that one can send whenever one wants and deals with whenever one feels like.)

JMO, YMMV. I have friends who are constantly on the phone, texting, talking, even when they're driving or hanging out with other people (friends, family, SOs); all I can say is they and I live in different worlds :-).

As for beers, the great thing about stadia (like pubs) is that there's always more where that came from (though she might have bloody offered to pay for it...)
