I'll post more after I've worked through the mountain of laundry I brought back with me, but I wanted to let folks know that I was back from the Isles. I had a lovely time, and already I can't wait to go back. :-) I took about 200 photos; I'll edit that down a bit and post them in my fotki albums.

Oh, and, yeah, I did no Interenet while I was away, so I'm sorting through lots of mail and I doubt I'll ever catch up with all the LJ. Anything crucial I should know?

:-p Yes, the hurricane was before I left.

As might be expected, the first thing that anyone said to me once they identified me as an American was "Oh, I'm so sorry about the hurricane--awful, isn't it?" In some cases, this led to long converations, in others just an exchange of remarks on how sad it was and how it should have been handled better. Very considerate folks.

It turns out that luis_mw was in Scotland for a required four-day work team bonding expedition. Bleah. It actually wasn't that bad -- he was up by Loch Lomond. So, if you were by there, you two might have run into each other. ;)

How was Scotland? I'll be back there in late March for a wedding in Edinburgh.

Yeah, the weather was a bit warm at the beginning of the week, at least in Glasgow, but it was nice the resto fhte time. I didn't even mind the grey rainy day on Wednesday, as I just hiked around in the rain anyway. :-)

Nope, avoided any and all news while I was away. Glad to hear it, though.

It was not bad; I missed one boat trip through bad weather, but I still got the other one in, and that was simply glorious. Zooming over the Sound of Sleat in a RIB, stopping off to watch seabirds and look for whales or dolphins (none spotted, alas), landing for tea on Eigg, zooming about some more...

York, eh? Sounds nice, though I understand their magicians there are very dodgy (just started reading Mr Norell on the flight back...)

One of the places I stayed, Raasay Outdoor Centre, does team-building things; if I got the chance to do somethign like that there, I would grab with both hands... I did see a group of kayakers set off when I was eating my lunch on the beach at Luss, but they were all teenagers...

Scotland was simply lovely. I'm more convinced than ever that that's where I want to live, if I can find a way to swing it.

A wedding is a good place for wonderfulness. One of my friends got married while I was away too, and in my email when I got back was a like to the photos--absolutely lovely!

I'll have to check with him on the name of where they stayed. They did some boating, but no kayaking. (They were pretty much all men from their mid-thirties to their early sixties.) One day's expedition wound up not happening, and the managing director was up for alternative ideas. Ian's was a tour of the nearby distillery. Yes, that idea was applauded and they went. :)

I know that the last night they stayed in a rather posh hotel on the shores of Loch Lomond; that was after three nights at an activities-type centre.

One trip in the future definitely is going to have to be just to Loch Lomond. There are so many things I'd like to do and see there, including joining the crowds climbing up Ben Lomond. There are several very nice-looking hotels along the lake there, including two that I recognized that I hadn't been able to get rooms in; now I know where they are for future reference!

York is definitely worth a visit if you haven't been there before - it's incredibly beautiful. Quite touristy but then when you see it you can understand why.....a bit like Edinburgh, I suppose.
