So, I was in World Market today, buying all sorts of goodies for my dad for his birthday (Droste pastilles in three flavours, two kinds of tea, raspberry hard candies, two kinds of scone mix, and, purely out of whimsy, a packet of glow on the dark stars). I got one or two small things for myself (mostly incense), and picked up a small pot of Vegemite because, well, it's one of those things that one hears about and I figured I should give it a try.

Came home, started wrapping and packing the gift box (with his main present, a Barnes & Noble gift card, in the center) and decided to try out the V on some stone wheat biscuits.

Half a biscuit with V on it was enough to tell me that this was not something I wanted to eat. In fact, I had a piece of Jarlsberger and several more biscuits (and a big mug of RNLI tea) just to get the taste out of my mouth.

So, anyone local who would like a small pot of Vegemite with one tiny scoopful gone is quite welcome to it. I put it in the fridge, in case it goes bad (to whihc I have to think--how would anyone *tell*?)

Been listening to Ellis Paul all day, interspersed with Tracy Grammer's latest album.

I love the chorus to one of EP's songs from American Jukebox Fables

"Pack your boots, your rhinestone suit,
Take a walk on the wire, feel the weight of the truth
Sometimes you've got to tear this old bigtop down..."

Just right now, I'm feeling happy and free and ready to tear my big top down and move on to wherever the next place is life has planned for me.

How many years into your (general) Anglophilia and you just now try Vegemite? I think I'd rather chew on a twig than voluntarily ever put Vegemite into my mouth. For one thing, I like my mouth. For another Vegemite is FOUL. *shakes head*

we don't eat it...that stuff is nasty! Marmite, however is a totally different matter - far less salty, and it actually melts on buttered toast...

Vegemite is a cruel joke, brought to you by the same sort of taste preference that created Moxie - the soda that tastes like tar.

The trick to Vegemite it to spread it thin, no thinner than that, I mean monatomically thin. :-) Or you could just stir a spoonful of it into soup like you would miso.

*chuckle* vegemite? That stuff is noxious. Marmite, I am big fan of - far less like eating a big salt bomb, and more mellow - it can be spread on toast quite thickly too (unlike vege which you have to have *really* thinly spread). Your post made me smile though, as I remembered L's first experience with marmite, and her taking a big dollop as she thought it was chocolate... *grin*
Bovril I think is going to be far more to your taste - try some when you're over next, melt it into boiling water to make the most comforting bouillon you'll ever drink (handy after a damp day out in Skye...)

Im game
