How despicable!

Members of St. John's Reformed United Church of Christ awoke Saturday morning to discover their church severely damaged by smoke and anti-gay graffiti painted on the side of the building.

Jerry Shultz, 53, of Middlebrook discovered the fire still smoldering when he stopped by early Saturday to cut grass.

The vandalism contained anti-gay messages and a declaration that United Church of Christ members were sinners. The graffiti's message appeared to be a reference to the national church's decision last week to endorse gay and lesbian marriages, Shultz said.

So they're attacking other Christians now?

Oh, a crucial part of being a fundamentalist [insert name of faith] is attacking other people from one's own faith who have strayed. Look at the Orthodox who throw stones at people who drive on Shabbat. Or the Wahabi zealots who forced little girls to stay in a burnig school building so that they would not sully themselves by displaying themselves to people by coming outside.

That local paper, though, I loved the headlien on their editorial:

Christians love; cowards hate

and printing the names of the entire editorial board. They are a class act. Give me people like that, like George Bailey, Jefferson Smith, like Mr Davis in Twelve Angry Men. Like the UCC, the Episcopal Church, and the UAHC/CCAR (which resolved back in 1996 to "support the right of gay and lesbian couples to share fully and equally in the rights of civil marriage"). Those people are America, not the church burners, the lynchers, the Karl Roves and the Rush Limbaughs.
