I'm conscious that I'm way out of the mainstream in terms of watching network television, and I'd be interested to know if there are good shows (serial dramas or comedies) that I miss. Right now the only things I watch regularly are West Wing (when it's in season), House, and E.R. (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] poliscidiva, plus The Sopranos, The Wire, and Six Feet Under on HBO. From time to time I tune in to The Simpsons and The Daily Show, but I don't do so religiously. Other things I've enjoyed in the past include comedies (Blackadder, Drew Carey, Red Dwarf), detective shows (Red Cap, The Vice, Inspector Morse, Prime Suspect, Rebus, McCallum), sci-fi (Babylon 5; some Star Trek--DS9 and Enterprise over TNG or Voyager), and serial dramas (Sports Night, thirtysomething, Nothing Sacred, My So-Called Life, Time and Again, Hill Street Blues, Monarch of the Glen--until they totally f'ed it up).

Any suggestions?

Firefly is incredible, either rent it, or catch it on Sci-Fi channel when it is re-run. Currently running the new Battlestar Galactica is pretty good, though I don't watch it religiously.

I was going to recommend BG as well--extremely well done miltary sci fi. The all-knowing Web says they're running a marathon of the first season later this week (the 6th?), prior to season 2 starting later this month, so set the TiVo.

I'm a fan of Grey's Anatomy.

And words cannot express how much Law and Order I watch.

Battlestar Galactica rocks like The Rock sitting in a rocking chair on top of a rock. One of the most grown-up SF shows to be found on TV. Which means it'll be cancelled before the end of the second season. Watch it or lose it.

The first is my fave, exactly mainstream network, but:

City Gardener - HGTV on Saturday at 11pm (neat English urban garden restyling from Channel 4...)

House on Fox you already watch (weird accent huh?)

Hells Kitchen - Fox on Monday at 9pm (Gordon Ramsay, a Brit more hated than Simon Cowell...)

Sense a theme there? *smile*

>Alas, I'm not much of a gardening, cooking, or reality show fan

All three funnily enough have been English passions (gardening will always be I suspect, cooking shows were, although they've dried up a lot, excepting Ramsay's rants and reality, well, it's cheap and can be relatively entertaining (I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here for example) so is bound to appeal to those looking to zone out.

On a sad tv note, Richard Whitley passed on this week. I'll miss his ties, jackets and dry Yorkshire wit.

On a lighter gaming note, did you see this:
