yes, I am a games slut
May. 3rd, 2005 04:56 pmI just got notice that GMT is billing me for Men of Iron and Under the Lily Banners. This means that they are in production, and I should be getting the actual games in a couple of months. This causes me to practically salivate, especially after all the stupid arguing I've been doing on the RenWars Yahoo Group with an idiot who thinks that longbows were obsolete even before Agincourt. They've already put the rules for Men of Iron out on the Web with a little miniscenario for Agincourt.
I had another nice evening on Monday playing ASL ("Retaking Vierville" from the ASL Starter Kit) with
john_arundel. I should have checked out the scenario before giving him the Germans to take a town away from US paras, though. Slaughterville. My apologies, and better luck with "Rattenkrieg" next week, Peter. It's supposed to be much more balanced. Unless you want to try Agincourt. but that would mean learning yet another new game. :-)
In other news, I got the second half of my teeth cleaning this morning (the chipping away of all the minor crud left after the sand-blasting of the first time). The Dr. thought that the condition of my filling was good and boded well, but has another he wants to put in. *sigh*
Edit: Ataturk, Jassin, Togoland, and the Jewish War arrived from Khyber Pass Games. My cup runneth over. Now to figure out the best way to mount the unmounted counters...

Date: 2005-05-03 09:25 pm (UTC)Honestly, I do sell off games sometimes, and I'm measuring the idea of disposing of a large chunk of my roleplaying games, but I am a sucker for historical games, especially ones with beautiful maps and pieces. And ones that come in series, so I can learn one set of rules and play a whole host of battles with them.
Perhaps that makes me a nympho-agonist? Oh, that sounds entirely too much like a conversation that needs to be on a filter. :-)

Date: 2005-05-04 02:25 am (UTC)I will do. At the least, I'm thinking of getting rid of the MERP stuff, and probaly the rest as well (Traveller, CoC, Earthdawn, Shadowrun, Pendragon, Elric, GURPS...)
longbows obsolete at Agincourt? I'm sure the French knights would have disagreed...
Oh, don't get me started...whoops, you already did! :-) Basically, a lot of people are all gushy about one of those stupid "hey, we hav a camera and a couple of talking heads; let's rubbish 600 years of scholarship" telly programmes, which concluded that French armour was impervious to longbows (despite tests that show it wasn't), and that the French all died because they fell down in the mud (despite no historical accounts saying that) and couldn't get up (because Hollywood tells us that armour was impossibly heavy, so even though people have made it and can do handstands in it, that doesn't matter). It's really annoying.
