D.C United cruised to an easy win over Chivas USA yesterday, showing they're still the champions they were when they won MLS Cup last year.

I have to say I'm completely ashamed of my other team, Newcastle. I've never seen this kind of behavior in tweny-five years (off and on) of watching soccer.

Edit: I have to confess a certain glee to hearing Rongen, DC's former useless coach, mouthing these tired, hopeless platitudes for another team:

"I'm clearly disappointed, especially since we worked so hard toward this historic day," said Chivas Coach Thomas Rongen, a former United coach and television analyst. "I'm disappointed we couldn't show our fans and our organization more than zero points."

The guy on the right looks like he's about to cry! Poor baby!

The guy on the right is a petulant, spolied, troublemaking brat who has a great track record, including getting drunk and wrecking cars, getting in fights in clubs, and (allegedly) date rape. On the other hand, the guy on the left is a thug with an even worse rep (he was cited in a criminal court case of assault and battery a few years ago but somehow managed to get off) and an (alleged) history of racial intolerance, so who knows what was said by whom that started it. I'm really just ashamed of the whole team at this point. If bad behavior weren't tolerated by the coaching staff and the management, and if young men who don't necessarily have a lot of smarts but who make more money than they know what to do with were given a little more supervision and adult mentorship in how to conduct themselves, professional sports wouldn't feature nearly so many unhappy, drunken, bad-tempered louts making fools of themselves.

Their mothers probably didn't give them enough attention as children.

What's English football coming to when players forget that you're supposed to get red carded for attacking players on the *other* team? It's really not that hard--and how much easier can IFF be than when your guys are wearing garish black and white stripes?

All true. The larger problem, IMO, is that players like Lee Bowyer (and Roy Keane, and Wayne Rooney. and Robbie Elliot, and MLS players like Rusty Pierce and Ryan Suarez) can't manage to get that, whoever the enemy is, the way to deal with him is to outplay him, not try to physically injure him. Laurent Robert may be a bit of a prima dona, but at his worst he yells at people--he doesn't go in with his fists.
