OK, I've had my cry for today

I can't even find the right words to say what I feel about this. What an excellent story! What an excellent example of the difference between the American dream and the politics of exclusion, between true Christianity and religion that's just a cloak for hate.
I've been reading a lot in the past few weeks about how the heartland is filled with ignorant hicks and toxic loathing of the things liberals believe in. I have trouble writing off half of the population of my country as completely antithetical to everything I believe in. And this story reinforces my conviction that there are a lot of folks who are too quick to follow the red/blue color guide and ignore the possibility of compromise.
