Massachusetts, WTF?
Jan. 20th, 2010 03:25 pmFrom what I've heard, Brown campaigned by being handsome and playing on people's greed and fear. Classic Republican tactics, but I'd hoped the Bay State would be better than that. And it seems the Dems didn't help by totally taking the election for granted and putting forward an uncharismatic pol who just seemed to be the person "whose turn it was".
What's worse, I see the liberal community taking what I think are *exactly* the wrong message from the election: that liberals need to be much more confrontational and aggressive in promoting a far-left agenda. I think nothing could be worse for the chances of retaining any sort of a moderate majority in Congress come the next elections, let alone keeping Obama in office for a second term.
Let's face it--the Democrats may have put forward some very liberal leaders, especially in the House, but that's because those are the people who have the party seniority. But the rank and file elected are for the most part moderate at best. If the Dems go streaking off into the far-left distance, I think they are going to leave the president and the electorate far behind them and get crushed in the next election.
