...oh, and...
Nov. 28th, 2006 08:12 amI sent in my application to the Society for Editors and Proofreaders for ordinary membership (one joins as an 'associate member'), which allows for more advertising possibilities, a little more professional cred., etc. I wasn't sure that my training (most of it several years old) and my references would be enough (ANOTHER points-based scheme--they seem to like them in the UK!) to qualify me, and my work experience wouldn't count (it's more than three years since I worked professionally as an editor).
I got a letter in the mail last night with the receipt for my ordinary membership fee. :-)
It seems silly to be so pleased about being 'ordinary', but I am.
Edit: Sadly, I have been informed that's just a receipt for the membership *application* fee. They are still waiting to hear from my references before actually upgrading me.

Nov. 28th, 2006 09:58 amNegatives: Took way too long to suss out and correct a very annoying dragging brake shoe. Also, my left knee started getting very tired after about 4 miles.
Positives: Saw doves, crows, jays, tits of various sorts, and a red-headed woodpecker! Also saw a buck deer! I think that's the first time I've seen one along the trail. He was very handsome. Also a positive is that I did finally manage to figure out what the problem with the brake was and correct it myself. And it's a very nice morning to be outside in.

Nov. 28th, 2006 04:38 pmYahoo are quite the b*stards!
I tried to find out why I'd gotten no mail from any of my lists since noon. Apparently one (1) message had bounced on Sunday (why I have no idea), so Yahoo decided to deactivate all mail to me from my lists as of noon today.
It took one message to reset the account but WTF? One bounce? And what's with it taking a day for them to even process that? They've been having a lot of trouble lately, and so have all sorts of computer systems. Are we quietly reaching the 'all the computers in the world are tired and going to shut down now' point?
