winterbadger: (bike)
I went out after I'd gotten home and went for a ride down part of one of the local bike trails. I didn't end up going far (I thought) because it was getting dar and, technically the park I'd left my car in closed at dusk. Plus my headlamp wasn't working (it's very fidgety--I may change it for another kind).

But when I got back home and plugged the numbers in, I found I'd had a nice little jaunt: 16 minutes of riding time and 2.3 miles, pretty comparable to my usual morning ride but nothing like as exhausting. I worked up a little sweat, but I wasn't constantly fighting for wind, the way I usually am with all my hills. Of course, there weren't the long costing bits downhill bits either, but I don't need those for fun. Just riding along listening to Silly Wizard on the wonderful player that [livejournal.com profile] shy_kat and [livejournal.com profile] redactrice gave me, smelling the smells of the woods and watching the bats swoop after the bugs (that were ending up in my face, a lot of them) was wonderful. Thanks to Rupert's excellent suspension the switch partway through from slightly potholed tarmac to gravelley trail wasn't a problem. I think I may try my plan of getting up early and going down to the park for a ride in the mornnig from time to time; that may make a nice alternative to my mountain-climbing :-) mornings.
