A nice brisk bike ride to start out the day. Only 30 minutes, and lots of coating, but lots of hill to get all the coasting. I chickened out and didn't do the last leg (the third side road). I need to work up to that--it goes as high as the Big Hill after all, only in two stages.

It's funny how when you're driving or even walking you don't notice gentle rises so much (at least I don't), but when I'm pedaling, all of a sudden I notice that, say, over the next 25-30 yards the road goes up as far as my head from my feet.

I don't have mmy new computer installed (wow! I've got two computers and Rupert has one of his own! :-) so I didn't check my distance or speed, but maybe tomorrow.

Heh, I should have gotten a picture. I went out in the living room just now and Phineas was sitting comfortably on the bicycle seat. :-)

distance

I used to have a map of the neighborhood with distances on it. I can't find it (it's probably at the bottom of The Big Box), but I printed out a map from Google today and used a homemade ruler to come up with the following.

Basic route (all the way down our street and back): about a mile and a quarter (about 2 km).

Expanded route (with two side streets): a little over a mile and a half (just over 2.5 km)

Full route (all three side streets): just over a mile and three-quarters (just under 3km)

So, it's not such an exciting distance. :-( But it's what I have time for in the morning.

Only then I discovered by turning on the satellite imagery feature of Google that they have the address pointer for my address off by about 100m. :-) They say we live in Accotink Stream. ("We live in a bloody swamp!") Well, doesn't matter; the relative distances are all that really count.

The landscape is so familiar and so lovely, but I love the animals best of all. Especially the sheep waiting for the bus!

*sigh* Sometimes it seems as if I'm so far from home. Then other times I wonder what the %^$@#^ I'm thinking.

And no guesses as to why I was on that page to begin with...
