Since I never watch television news, I haven't seen any of the footage of the disaster or its aftermath, but something has been seeping into my mind. I had a dream last night in which I was standing in my room (my old room, at home, which is now my mom's room) looking out the window (a tree that isn't there any more was there to one side of the window, as if all my old furniture wasn't enough of a clue that this was happening in the past). My friend Aaron (
bidger) was standing next to me, and just when I bent down to look at something on the floor, he said, "Oh shit!" and I knew a tornado, followed by a huge rainstorm, was just about to hit my house (and somehow it was *my* house; I was thinking about how much it was going to cost to replace the roof). And then we were both lying on the floor, and I thought "OK, so maybe I don't believe in God, but it wouldn't hurt to try praying right about now," which I did.
Then the terrible noise and rain were over, and the roof was still there (well, at least the ceiling was...), but outside the window there was a huge stream of water rushing across the front of the house, eating into the earth, and I thought "Damn, that's going to undermine the foundation unless we can get it diverted." Aaron pointed out that a shovel that had been stick in a mound of earth under the window (the earth was now gone) had been blown through the window. We took it out, carefully.
I don't remember anything else that was part of that dream, just gradually waking up with Nicholas sitting on my back, purring and waiting for me to get up and feed him and the other cats.
