The population of developing countries will soar unless donors give more funds to reproductive health programmes, a UN Population Fund report says.
The world's 50 poorest countries will triple in size by 2050, surging to 1.7 billion people, it predicts.

from the BBC

In light of a recent discussion of theories of population *shrinkage* (which so affected the originator that he apparently deleted his journal (!), I thought this was interesting.

The fact that the Bush Admin. froze $34Billion in spending just amazes me. I knew that they were cutting back on donations to reproductive health programs, but I wasn't sure how much. The amount is staggering. I feel so sad that women are denied their rights to birth control and sex education, as well as the proper care they need for pre/post natal services. :-( Not only does the current administration not help those who *don't* wish to reproduce, they don't offer support and services to those that have to reproduce due to *their* policies/lack of support.

All the scientific stuff if seen does seem to predict massive population growth in developing nations.

The "population shrinkage" arguers always seem to be full of ****.

Well what I know is that population in some of the western countries is indeed shrinking in the all to near future, like here, but that yes, in the 3rd world countries it's going to keep growing. :( I wish our governments would try harder to help the poorer people.
