[livejournal.com profile] redactrice and [livejournal.com profile] shy_kat joined [livejournal.com profile] john_arundel and me for Chinese food, huge bottles of Newky Broon (just me and Peter), and a lengthy playing of Joan of Arc.

I'm surprised that these reviews are so negative; we quite enjoyed the game (and while, as France, I managed to win, the Peter [les rosbifs], Chris [Brittany], and Melissa [Burgundy] all seemed to enjoy it too). My impression was that we all wanted to play it again.

Would anyone be up for a gaming day, either the first weekend of October (2/3) or one of the last two (23/24 or 30/31)? I have a pile of stuff to play, and folks would always be welcome to bring their favourites.

Is there any other size?
One day I'll have to show you the trick a girl taught me to do with those bottles.
Of course, you need a large enough receptacle.

I'm not that surprised by the reviews. For a Euro-type game it has a much larger than normal randomness element. People who strongly prefer games where the win goes to the most skillful strategist would hate that (I've heard this about other games for people like this).

I liked that it was vaguely historical, fairly fast moving, and you were always able to do something on your turn (hate games whre my turn consists of 'not enough X, pass').
