cautious optimism
Aug. 26th, 2004 02:46 pmOK, so I started doing the South Beach Diet, just out of curiousity and because it sounded like something I could actually manage.
I'm missing alcohol, but not craving it (except for a litlel while when I got home last night and was so tired that the decanter ont eh counter was calling to me; it's hard to resist a lilting Scottish broogue, but I did...)
I checked myself on the scale in the gym on Monday: 272. Today: 268. Now, the last time I checked before this week I was 276, so there's some variance in what's going on with my bod (the scale is fairly consistent: I've checked it). But this is the first time that I can recall since maybe the beginning of the year that I've been under 270.

Date: 2004-08-26 07:22 pm (UTC)What I found annoying was going from no exercise at all to a healthy amount of exercise made no impression (and it wasn't a matter of converting fat to muscle mass--the fat was still there). It really needs the combination. And walking will be very good for you! I remember when I walked a lot (in college, when I worked in Boston, when I worked downtown) and that made a huge difference. And getting into a habit is such an important part of that. It's just difficult for me to make the time to walk for the sake of walking, when there are so many other thigns to do; our gym is good 'cause its right here in the building. I did use to walk when I worked in Alexandria and before that in Crystal City, but when there was no gym to change and shower in it limited the amount of sweating I wanted to do. I got through a lot of good books on tape, though, (and some printed ones--severl of my colleague thought it was hilarious I could read while walking) and got to watch life along the river a good deal.
