We've had people here working on the roof. They started August 5th. They finished about five weeks later. 

Then they moved on to working on the back deck, Well, they were supposed to; they actually only started on the back deck this week.

Nine weeks of clomping, banging, sawing, hammering, nailgunning... Nails strewn all over, bits of roofing material in the trees... It's like having Mr O'Reilly here all year round.

I thought it was only in China and Soviet Russia that people got jobs for life...

Wow our roof was done in two days. o.O

Yeah, I had the roof replaced on my house in Fairfax and it took a day or two, tops. This roof is trickier, because it has several gables (my house was a simple two-gable roof), and there was a leak that they were asked to track down. But five weeks? You've got to be kidding me. It's like something from Treme

I heard they were supposed to be replacing the stairs and decks behind the house to bring them up to code. I was surprised, because the guy who made the last modifications, a resident, was a very thorough carpenter, and I doubt he would have done something that wasn't up to code. Sure enough, they're replacing only the *hand rails* (which really needed to be sanded down to keep from giving you splinters, but which were quite sturdy and safe).

I'm just glad that I'm not paying them.
