winterbadgerWell, a less than ideal start (waking up before dawn an unable to go back to sleep) has turned into a much better day.
I had some breakfast around 6 or 7, then managed to take a nap for about three hours. I pottered around doing prep for a historical minis game I'm running tomorrow and watching a movie, grazed my way through something resembling lunch, then made some ambitious lists and went out to do errands.
And did them all! I went to the hardware store (our lovely relatively-new hardware store in Takoma) and got a window screen for the bedroom (just one, as I had forgotten to measure the windows and didn't want to get several of the wrong size), materials to replace one of the screen panels in the backdoor (which someone with four feet had popped out), and--since I was there--some dish soap of the kind I like to replace the sucky Trader Joe's soap I had bought once in desperation and some work gloves to replace the ones I threw away. They do have the soda infusers that several of my friends have that I really like, so when I go back to get more window screens, I may get one.
Then I went off to a hobby shop I had found on the Web, in Rockville, to get some things for the game tomorrow. They were having a 30% off sale on Ospreys, so I bought a couple of those that I could use. Right in the same shopping center was a Trader Joe's, so I skipped driving over to Burnt Mills and just got what I needed there. Then I was able to scoot out the back of the shopping center (which also has a MicroCenter PC store, note to self) and backtrack to a small beer and deli shop I had noticed on the way. It was more of a whim, because it was unprepossessing looking. But it turned out to be a good choice, as they have an excellent beer and wine and cider selection.
Came home swiftly and easily, got everything in and put away, tried out the screen (it fits--I can get more that will actually be taller and thus get more airflow). I have some more prep to do for the game tomorrow, and I need to do some laundry, but for now I am going to have a beer and relax, feeling that I have had an unexpectedly productive day.
