in the realm of "things I did not know"
Mar. 14th, 2012 08:19 amThe Canadian dollar has been about 10% below the US dollar in value most of my life (US$1 would get you CAN$1.10).
Apparently this is now one of those distant memories, like the £ being $5, or even $2.50. The Canadian dollar has been at parity with the US dollar, off and on, since 2008 (with a brief return to traditional ranges in 2009). And at the moment it is slightly *above* the US dollar in value. One US dollar right now can only purchase 0.99068 Canadian dollars!

Date: 2012-03-14 04:38 pm (UTC)Prices in US dollars have always been lower than prices in Canadian dollars, because the US dollars were worth more. Now US dollars are worth less.
I think what saved you money was the sale and the free shipping, not the exchange rate.
