I am beyond frustrated with Congressional Democrats and liberals in general.
I just got the following email from Credo, a telephone service I subscribe to because it donates a portion of its proceeds to liberal causes (it used to be known as Working Assets Long Distance).
Aaaaguuuuuggghhh! What a stupid, wrong-headed, obstructionist plan! What happened to all the Democrats who used to decry the GOP's unwillingness to compromise, their lockstep insistence on getting everything they wanted or standing still? Congratualtions, Democrats! As Randy Quaid says to Glen Close in "The Paper", "You've officially become everything you used to hate."
Did the president get everything he wanted? Of course not. That's what *compromise* means. Did we get things we wanted? Yes: the tax cuts are still not permanent. We're not have a tax HIKE right in the middle of a recession (yeah, whatever economics textbooks say, we're still right in the middle of one.) Gosh, that's got to be bad, right? Because what we really need to do right now is decrease peoples' spending power.
We got an extension of unemployment, so people with no jobs will be able to EAT and pay HEATING BILLS over CHRISTMAS. But, gee, that must be a bad thing because we didn't keep 2% of the population from getting marginally less mind-blowingly wealthy. Having people starve and freeze would be worth doing that.
We got a payroll tax cut, which will help low and middle-income people, not the wealthy. We got a pile of tax credits that will likewise help low and middle-income people.
Some Congressional Democrats and some left-wing commentators want to be the dog in the manger and keep everyone from getting anything because they, and only they, didn't get what they want.
And people wonder why the Democrats lost so big in the election? Guess what, guys? Keep this up and you'll lose the Senate and the presidency in the next one. *I* sure won't be voting for you if you continue to try to stonewall. You're there to do a job--do it, don't just whine and throw your toys out of the pram.

Dear Jan,
President Obama has caved in to Republicans and cut a deal to extend the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.
Congressional Democrats are divided on this deal. And the first show of resistance is coming from progressives in the House.
Rep. Peter Welch of Vermont is circulating a "Dear Colleague" letter to Democrats in the House opposing the compromise and calling for an end to the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest 2%. He needs our help to encourage members of Congress to sign on to his letter and provide much needed momentum for our campaign to block the Obama/GOP compromise on the Bush tax cuts.
Call Rep. Edwards now and ask her to sign the Welch letter. Click here for an easy script and the number to call.
Just because President Obama cut a bad deal, doesn't mean Congress has to go along with it. Call Rep. Edwards now and ask her to sign the Welch letter and resist this deal.
